This course provides 4 hours of Continuing Education approved by NYS for social workers, (provider #0270)

Relationships are the infrastructure of our lives, and communication is the glue that holds them together. This workshop will provide background about the effective use of improv games in clinical and educational settings to promote healthy, positive interpersonal connections and teach immediately useful relationship skills. Applied Improvisation is the ideal method for strengthening interpersonal communication skills because the games and exercises are effective ways to focus on the positive potential of interpersonal connections and learn skills for dealing with what is negative or difficult. We will discuss applications for groups and classes as well as individual or couples therapy.

We will learn:

Improv games and exercises that enhance a sense of safety and play and can be deployed in clinical and academic settings;

Brain-based research into the use of games for therapeutic and learning goals;

The 4 elements of happiness communicated through improv games and how they strengthen interpersonal connections;

The 4 essential communication skills that can be learned and improved through applied improvisation;
